Marking email messages as read and unread in Gmail

You get an email in on your Gmail outside of work hours or at a time when you’re short on time. You’re curious anyway and you quickly click on the email to see what the content is. But how do you mark this mail as unread in your E-mail messages so you can take action later?

You may also receive several emails on your Gmail that you don’t want to throw away immediately but want to mark as read, for example when you have ordered something and you receive an order confirmation by email. This order confirmation and shipping confirmation you take note of want to mark as read immediately without opening them.

  1. Download the Gmail app on your iPhone or iPad;
  2. Open the Gmail app on your iPhone or iPad;
  3. Click on the sender’s profile image;
  4. Tap the envelope in the upper right corner. A closed envelope is unread.

  1. Open the Gmail app on your Android phone or tablet;
  2. Tap the sender’s profile image on the left side next to the messages you want to mark;
  3. Tap on the top right corner on Unread, which is the closed envelope.

  1. Open Gmail in your computer’s Internet browser;
  2. Select a message by ticking it;
  3. Click the 3 dots at the top right and click on ‘ Mark as unread’.
