Cleaning your washing machine is necessary for a long life of your washing machine. It is an expensive product to purchase so it is good to take good care of it. How often should you do that and how should you clean a washing machine? We have listed it for you.

If you are careful with your clothes, then you take good care of your washing machine.

A washing machine gets dirty because hair, body fat and dander react with detergent, leaving behind a dirty gray substance. This substance is called grease lice and is not good for your washing machine or your clothes. Bacteria and scale can also plague your washing machine. Therefore, it is best to give your washing machine a regular cleaning. If you go through the steps below once or twice a month, you will give your washing machine, as well as your clothes, a longer life.

Are you frugal with your clothes? Then take good care of your washing machine.

Washing machine cleaning – How do I do it?

Here are the tips for cleaning a washing machine:

  1. Remove as much of the gray deposits from the rubber edge as possible. You can do this, for example, with a wad of paper.
  2. Clean the soap dish. You can take the soap dish out of your washing machine and scrub it with a brush under the tap. Even easier is to run the dishwasher with it.
  3. Clean the area where you insert the soap dish with a cloth and remove any soap residue.
  4. Add a splash of natural vinegar or half a cup of baking soda into the drum and run a wash cycle at 90 degrees. This will remove grease as well as dirt and scale. No vinegar or baking soda in the house? Putting two dishwasher tablets in the soap dish can also.
  5. Make the outside of the washing machine clean with some soapy water and a cloth.
  6. Clean the washer filter of objects and lint. This is usually on the underside at the front of the washing machine.

How do I keep my washing machine fresh longer?

  1. Use washing powder instead of liquid detergent. Washing powder leaves less soap residue in your machine.
  2. Use a measuring spoon or cup. By not adding detergent on the fly, you don’t use more detergent than necessary and avoid unnecessary soap residue.
  3. Keep the washer door open between washes. This gives bacteria less chance to grow.
  4. Do a 90-degree wash every two weeks. Because we constantly wash at lower temperatures, bacteria are not all killed and grease residue remains. Washing hot occasionally solves this.
