How the photographs are used

Images illustrate the subject of a guide. They may show a particular example in another place; they do not claim that the pictured venue is near you or that everyone will have the same experience. A photographer, pictured person or organisation does not endorse 1001 Near Me simply because an image appears here.

Licences and attribution

Wikimedia Commons is a source of freely reusable media, but each file has its own conditions. Where an image uses a Creative Commons licence, follow the exact licence and version shown in its credit. Conditions can include crediting the creator, linking to the licence and identifying changes. A ShareAlike condition can require an adapted version to be shared under the applicable compatible licence. The licence of a photograph applies to that work, not automatically to the whole website.

WebP versions and visible changes

The photographs hosted here are optimised for the web. A credit’s change note records the conversion, resizing or cropping applied to that image. Where we provide an adapted version of a ShareAlike image, that version remains available under the licence identified in its credit. The source link leads to the original file page, where you can review the creator’s attribution, licence details and available original file. Card layouts may display a cropped view of the photograph; the underlying WebP file keeps the framing described in its credit.

Reusing an image yourself

Use the source and licence links for the particular photograph rather than assuming that every image has the same terms. Public-domain or CC0 status concerns copyright; it does not automatically remove privacy, personality, trademark or other rights that may matter to a particular use. We do not grant additional rights in someone else’s photograph. Original site icons and branding are separate from the Commons photographs.

Questions or a correction

If you believe a credit is incomplete, an image has been attributed incorrectly or your rights are affected, contact info@olphy.com. Include the page address, the image’s source or credit and a description of the issue. This helps us identify the exact file and assess the request.
